NewsLimnus | Bloodchains See my best friends and I perform in the new Limnus video. Recorded by my friend Jake of Nazarene Media, edited by me. Their new album is coming out soon! [updated 11.11.11] ___________________________ Year "Any fool can get old, but it takes a genius to not waste time." - The Doe Boy It's my birthday today, and for me this year feels endlessly better than the one preceding it. Between writing & demoing the new Abrasions album, getting a taste of the live experience doing shows for Limnus, going go college, and doing some photography work for my friend's company on the side, I've been enjoying the luxury of work. The world it seems is in an increasingly alarming state of economic, emotional recession and depression, warped even further by life's many natural complications, but I have no intention of giving up the fight, especially now. It's time to move forward, and leave the past behind. The first album, Memorial, is now available as a free download in the Musik section of this site until further notice, though CDs and stuff are still available too. Tell your friends, if you have any. I've got another show playing keys and rhythm guitar with Limnus tomorrow, at the Gilman in Berkeley.
Their new album, a truly gargantuan masterpiece called The Forbidden, is coming out soon; so many more tour dates will follow. Abrasions live won't happen for awhile, so if you'd like to see me perform you should come out to one of their shows this fall! Check out the Abrasions tumblr page and Limnus's various online accounts for more information regarding that band and other things I'm doing. It's going to be quiet around here for awhile, but new stuff is in the works. See you around. - J [09.01.11] ___________________________ Limnus I've been asked to join Limnus as the live keyboardist! We've been rehearsing for a show at the DNA Loung in San Francisco on August 2nd, opening for Dismantled and Everything Goes Cold. Come see us!
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=220476891323043 Limnus are some great friends of mine who I've collaborated with on many occasions in the past; it's an honor to join their canon. The new Abrasions album and live plans are still in the works; my time is just divided between the two projects now. Limnus's new single, Bloodchains, came out a month or so ago. Check it out here. Hope to see you at the DNA! - J [07.22.11] ___________________________ Comrades I'm hitting the road tomorrow, accompanying my friends Limnus on a short tour in the southwest. They're heading to Phoenix, Arizona and El Paso, Texas to open for Dismantled; very exciting! We'll also be dropping by the Bar Sinister in Los Angeles tomorrow night, so come hang out if you're in town! My guitarist Chris's shoegaze band, Airs, is also doing a minitour this month. They'll be playing at a few places in the bay. See the flyer here. - J [07.08.11] ___________________________ Bassist; Guitarist Wanted Been rehearsing with Chris Broyles and Tyler King to do some shows this fall. Still looking for a good sexy bassist to bring it all together though, so if you know anybody, or are interested yourself, please email us at J@abrasivemusik.net, or via the Facebook page! [07.01.11] ___________________________ Covers Been tinkering with the new studio set up, getting in the mindset of the next album, and in the process have endeavored to work on a couple of covers. ![]() Disassociative [Marilyn Manson cover] by abrasions First off, a cover of Marilyn Manson's "Disassociative", from his album Mechanical Animals. This really takes me back. I was obsessed with this album when I was a kid, and I think it's even more relevant now in this alienated internet age than it was back then. ![]() Other Voices [The Cure cover] by abrasions Following that, a rather impulsive cover of "Other Voices" by The Cure, from one of my favorite albums ever, Faith. They've always been a huge influence, especially when recording my debut album, Memorial. Mixing done by my good friend J.M. Blanch. Check them out! [06.28.11] ___________________________ Pale Blue Dot

Our song, "All Ashes", is on it, along with new and old tracks by the likes of Android Lust, Collide, I, Parasite, and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult! All proceeds are split 50/50 between the Red Cross and Japan's Earthquake Animal Rescue & Support. It's great music for a noble cause, so I strongly recommend you check it out! http://synthellecmusic.com Also available at your usual digital retail outlets: iTunes, Amazon, Juno, and Fixt. - J [05.31.11] ___________________________ Live Members Still Wanted! I would like to introduce Chris Broyles and Tyler King as Abrasions new live guitarist and keyboardist! We've been rehea Still looking for a live bassist, so please hit me up at J@abrasivemusik.net if you're interested! [04.03.11] ___________________________ Fuck yeah!
Memorial is now available at the Rasputin Music in both Berkeley and San Leandro, CA. Support your local record store and go grab a copy! [02.04.11] ___________________________ The Winter EP is available now! ![]() Recorded in late 2008/early 2009, the Winter EP is a small collection of sparse ambient instrumentals made for rainy times. I think it kind of serves as a precursor to Memorial, which was really coming together as this was recorded. I think fans of the first record, the more ambient Shades of Summer will dig this one too. It's not much but I feel it fills a particular headspace, especially in these econimically stagnant times. It's available for download on this website, totally free (or at a price you choose), and includes a small photo gallery of Jacob Helton and Jared Warren's awesome artwork with every download. Spread the word! - J [12.21.10] ___________________________ Older News >> |
